Antenna Maintenance

When it comes to radio, it's no brainer that the antenna is one of the most important pieces of equipment in your system! However, most likely it only gets attention when something goes wrong, though upkeep and check ups are great preventative measures! In this article we’ll cover some things to check up on for your antenna.  

1. Make sure your antenna is tuned, this one is an absolute must when setting up your system for it to work efficiently! 
2. Most of the time, the antenna will be tuned with the antenna tip in place. Make sure yours still has this attached and if not, make sure to get a new one as soon as possible. A missing cap can lead to high SWR, and an inefficient radio.  
3. Make sure the antenna is set properly in its mount. The environment has many stress factors that can make the antenna move around such as wind.  
4. Once a month we recommend wiping the antenna down with a damp rag with WD-40 or similar substance. This works not only to clean the antenna, but also adds a protective oil covering that also gives sheen.
