Best CB Antennas for Truckers: What to Consider

The right CB antenna starts with your truck, not a universal “best” model. Work out where the mount will fit, how much overhead clearance you need, and how you will check the finished installation before choosing the antenna.
The short answer
My recommendation is to choose the mounting system first, then a compatible antenna that fits the job. For a semi, that may mean a truck-specific mirror-arm mount; for a pickup, use a pickup-specific selection process rather than assuming the same bracket will work.

Mounting: match the hardware to the truck
A bracket selected for one truck model is not automatically suitable for another. Use the product’s stated application as the starting point and confirm the actual truck configuration before ordering.
- Kenworth T680/T880: The Driver Extreme DRX-3682 mirror-arm mount is listed for 2013-and-newer T680/T880 mirror arms, on either side of the truck.
- Freightliner P4 Cascadia: The Driver Extreme DRX-3552 mirror mount is listed for 2017-and-newer P4 Cascadia applications and attaches to either mirror arm without drilling.
- Other truck configurations: Confirm the model and mounting-point dimensions before selecting a general-purpose bracket. A pickup stake-pocket or toolbox solution should not be treated as a default semi-truck installation.
Follow the selected antenna and mount manufacturers’ grounding and installation instructions. Do not assume that every painted bracket should be sanded, or that every antenna system uses the same ground-plane arrangement.
Clearance: measure the finished installation
Do not choose an antenna length on the assumption that a four-foot antenna automatically clears bridges, buildings, or loading areas. Measure the completed installation and check applicable state rules and posted route clearances.
There is no blanket federal commercial-vehicle height limit of 13′6″; states set their own restrictions, and particular roads may have lower clearances, as explained by FHWA’s vehicle-size guidance. For dump-truck and construction work, include job-site structures and equipment movement in the clearance check.
Single or dual antennas?
I would not recommend two antennas solely because the truck is used for long-haul work. First decide whether a single installation meets the mounting and maintenance requirements of your truck.
If you choose a dual system, use the antenna and harness manufacturer’s instructions for matching, spacing, cable routing, and tuning. Do not assume that adding a second antenna guarantees a particular result, and do not cut a specified co-phase harness simply to shorten the cable run.

Make tuning part of the installation
Measure the installed system rather than assuming a new antenna is already tuned to the truck. Firestik recommends working toward an SWR below 2:1 across the CB channels and warns that transmitting with excessive SWR can damage radio circuitry (Firestik SWR guidance).
