CB Radio Bands - AM & Single Sideband (SSB)

In most cases, there are two basic types of CB Radios on the market today: ones that offer both AM and Single Sideband (SSB) and ones that only offer AM modulation.

Their are significant benefits to using a CB radio with SSB versus the AM radio band.  The SSB band is regulated to allow more power (12 watts vs. 4 watts).  This power is significantly more concentrated in the SSB band, resulting in a narrower band signal.  This more precise signal reduces the level of noise, distortion and interference when compared to the AM band.  The SSB band also only transmits voice data, where an AM band must also transmit the carrier.
