CB Radios and Emergency Preparedness

As a society we’ve gotten use to many different technologies. Most recently, this has taken the form of our smart devices. There are very few moments where we aren’t talking, texting, or surfing the internet on some form of portable device. It’s our primary source of communications across the world

Except when emergencies strike.

Communication Unpredictability

When natural or man-made emergencies occur, they can severely disrupt digital communications. If towers are damaged, then failures can occur due to network disconnects or the overwhelming surge of people trying to get more information. Throw in an extended loss of power, and mobile communications are nearly eliminated.

CB Radio Predictability

This doesn’t happen with CB radios. These transceivers don’t need to connect through cell towers or fiber optic cables. Instead, they use good ol’ fashion radio waves.

In addition, there’s a larger reach for CBs. Because the waves bounce off  the atmosphere toward their destination, their messages can be heard across many channels. Especially emergency frequencies like Channels 9 and 19.

Power Supply

But how do you transmit when you don’t have any power? Well, one of the items that should be part of your emergency preparedness kit is a generator or UPS. Even if it’s just a few minutes, hooking the CB to a portable power supply can let people know about your situation. In turn, both family members and first responders will know your whereabouts and condition.

How do you go about this? Speak to one of our CB Radio Supply representatives. They’ll help you find the right CB and antenna for your emergency kit.
