Replacing NGP Ring Terminals

The NGP coax cable is a very sensitive thing, as a reduction of even half inch of its length would likely make the entire cable useless. On that same plane, if the ring terminal separates from the cable assembly that will alter the length and possibly make adjusting the system with the antenna impossible. In this article we’ll cover what you can do to replace or remove this ring terminal.

If the ring terminal was soldered on initially, which is the recommended method, then you can simply reheat the connection with a soldering iron and remove the terminal. When installing a new terminal be sure to avoid any crimping tools as the center conductor is very delicate and these tools can be harmful.

When replacing the ring terminal, as said before, don’t use any crimping tools, the solder is the only thing you will need. You can also use a piece of shrink tubing to cover the end of the ring terminal and coax cable. This is to prevent the loose ends from touching anything as this can affect your system and not allow it to tune properly.
