Setting Antenna SWR: Part Two
Previously, we began discussing how to properly set up your antenna to have the most effective standing wave ratio (SWR). We ended off with making sure your radio is connected to the SWR meter properly and having the meter and radio in line. In this article, we’ll continue going through the steps needed to set up your SWR for maximum efficiency.
Once your radio is on the lowest channel, switch your SWR meter into the forward position and press the transmit switch. Now that the meter is in transmit mode, use the set or adjust knob on the meter to align the needle with the mark on the meter face. After you can switch to the reference position which should now show your SWR for channel one.
Keep note of the values given and round to the nearest tenth (for example, 1.7, 2.5 etc.) and at this point release the microphone switch. Switch your radio to the middle channel, for CB this would be channel 19, place the meter back in the forward position, and repeat the same steps as done before. Then switch to the highest channel and repeat.
