Top 10 CB Antennas for Maximum Range

By Lance Downs — Owner, CB Radio Supply. Selling and installing CB antennas since 2009. Based in South Bend, Indiana. Updated August 2026.

Ask ten truckers what the "best long-range CB antenna" is and you'll get ten different answers — usually whatever they've had bolted to their hood for a decade. That's not helpful when you're trying to decide what to buy today. So here's the honest version: the ten CB antennas that consistently deliver the longest usable range in the real world, based on what we actually sell, what our customers report back, and what the physics of a 27 MHz signal will let an antenna do.

A quick note before the list: range on 11 meters (CB) is mostly a function of three things — antenna length, ground plane quality, and how well the antenna is tuned (low SWR). Brand matters less than most YouTube reviews suggest. A well-tuned 4' Firestik on a properly-grounded pickup bed can outperform a poorly-installed 5' antenna on a fiberglass camper shell every day of the week. Read the Choosing the Right Antenna guide for the full breakdown, or the SWR tuning guide if you already own an antenna that isn't performing.

The Top 10 CB Antennas for Maximum Range

1. Hustler IC56 — 102" Stainless Steel Whip

If we could only recommend one long-range CB antenna, this is it. The 102" stainless whip is a full quarter-wave antenna at 27 MHz — the theoretical ideal length for CB. No coil, no loading, no compromises. Mount it correctly with a good ground and it will reach farther than anything shorter you can buy. It's the standard on class-8 trucks for a reason.

Best for: semi-trucks, pickup beds, work trucks. Trade-off: the 102" length rules out parking garages and most drive-throughs.

2. Wilson 5000 — Magnet or Fixed Mount

The Wilson 5000 uses a 62.5" whip over a 10-gauge coil with a massive 3-inch magnetic base (magnet version). Its center-loaded design gives it excellent radiation efficiency for its size, and it handles up to 5,000 watts if you ever run an amp. Customers regularly tell us this is the antenna that "just worked" after a smaller antenna disappointed them.

Best for: people who want serious range without drilling holes. Trade-off: at 62.5" it's still a tall antenna — plan for parking clearance.

3. Wilson 1000 — The Trucker Classic

The 1000 is the 5000's smaller brother — 62.5" whip, 10-gauge coil, 3,000-watt handling. In our experience it performs within a few percent of the 5000 in most installs, and it's cheaper. If your budget is tight but you still want a real long-range antenna, this is the one.

Best for: daily drivers who want Wilson performance at a lower price. Trade-off: same height as the 5000, so no clearance advantage.

4. Solarcon Antron A-99 — For Base Stations

If you're running a base station at home, the Antron A-99 is the gold standard for long-range CB communication. It's a 17-foot omnidirectional vertical with a 3-piece fiberglass construction. Mount it on a pole above your roofline and you'll hear stations dozens of miles away on a clear day — and hundreds of miles when skip is running.

Best for: home base operators. Trade-off: requires a permanent mount and a decent run of coax.

5. Stryker SR-A10 — 10-Meter / CB Dual Purpose

The SR-A10 is a 49" fiberglass antenna designed to work efficiently on both the 10-meter ham band and 11-meter CB. It handles 10,000 watts, has a heavy-duty stainless spring, and comes with a 2-year guarantee. If you're running an export or 10-meter radio alongside your CB, this is the antenna to use.

Best for: 10-meter and CB operators, high-power setups. Trade-off: fiberglass isn't as durable as stainless steel over the long run.

6. Predator 10K Competition

The Predator 10K is a custom-built center-loaded antenna designed for maximum radiation efficiency. It comes in multiple whip lengths (4', 5', 6') and handles 10,000 watts. Enthusiasts who chase DX and skip runs consistently rate this among the best-performing CB antennas ever made. It's expensive and it looks industrial, but it delivers.

Best for: competition and DX enthusiasts. Trade-off: not a "just clip it on" kind of antenna — plan the install.

7. Hustler SCB / SCB-S — Center-Loaded All-Weather

Vintage design, USA-made, and still one of the best center-loaded fiberglass antennas you can buy. The SCB is compact enough for daily driving but performs surprisingly well thanks to a large loading coil at the center of the whip.

Best for: pickups and SUVs where you want good range but not a giant whip. Trade-off: shorter than the 102" whip, so slightly less range.

8. Wilson 2000 Trucker

The 2000 is Wilson's dedicated trucker antenna — mirror-mount style, 4' fiberglass whip with a top-loaded coil. It's designed to be mounted in pairs (co-phased dual antennas) on either side of a semi, and it's the top choice for over-the-road drivers who want reliable long-distance CB range.

Best for: semi-truck co-phase installs. Trade-off: designed for dual-antenna setups; a single 2000 isn't its best use case.

9. Firestik FS Tunable Tip — Best Budget Long-Range Option

Under $40 and it will absolutely deliver real long-range performance if you tune it properly. The tunable tip means you can dial in a low SWR on the exact channel you use most. Fiberglass construction with a lifetime guarantee. If you're just getting started, this is the antenna I recommend — put the money you save into a good mount and quality coax.

Best for: first-time CB owners on a budget. Trade-off: shorter length means less range than the top of this list.

10. Skipshooter Fiberglass — USA-Made Sleeper Pick

Skipshooter antennas are hand-built in the USA and use a heavy-duty coil design that punches well above its size class. Our customers who own one become evangelists — they're rugged, well-tuned from the factory, and priced fairly. Comes in a standard version and a USA Flag special edition.

Best for: people who want a USA-made, hand-built antenna without spending Wilson-1000 money. Trade-off: less well-known brand, so fewer online reviews to reference.

How to Get the Most Range Out of Whichever Antenna You Choose

Buying the right antenna is step one. Getting real long-range performance out of it depends on the install. Three things matter more than which brand name is on the box:

  • Ground plane. A CB antenna needs a metal surface underneath it to radiate against — a truck roof, a car hood, a pickup bed rail. Mounting on fiberglass or a plastic bumper wastes signal. Read more about why grounding matters.
  • SWR under 2.0. An antenna that's not tuned to your radio is throwing power back at the transmitter instead of out into the air. Every install should end with an SWR meter check. Here's how to tune for low SWR.
  • Quality coax and connectors. Cheap coax will kill 3 dB of your signal before it ever reaches the antenna. Use RG8X for short runs, RG-8 for long runs, and make sure your PL-259 connectors are soldered — not crimped.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the longest-range CB antenna?

By pure physics, a 102" stainless steel whip like the Hustler IC56 is the longest-range CB antenna you can buy because it's a full quarter wavelength at 27 MHz with no loading coil. Center-loaded antennas like the Wilson 5000 come very close in real-world use because they're properly matched and radiate efficiently for their length.

How many miles will a CB antenna reach?

Under normal (ground-wave) conditions, a well-tuned mobile CB with a good antenna will reach 3-15 miles depending on terrain. Base-station setups with an elevated antenna like the Antron A-99 can reach 15-30 miles. When "skip" propagation is running (usually during solar maximum), a CB signal can travel hundreds or even thousands of miles.

Does antenna length really matter for CB range?

Yes — but only up to a point. The longer the antenna, the closer it gets to the ideal 108" (quarter wavelength) length, and the more efficiently it radiates. That's why the 102" whip is the gold standard. But a properly-tuned 4' fiberglass antenna on a good ground plane will outperform a poorly-installed 8' antenna every time.

Are magnetic mount CB antennas as good as fixed mounts?

For most users, yes. A good magnet mount (like the Wilson 5000 magnet mount) can equal a fixed mount if the vehicle roof is clean, flat, and provides a good ground. Fixed mounts have the edge for permanent installs, high speeds, and off-road conditions where a magnet can slip.

What's the best CB antenna for a semi-truck?

Semi-trucks almost always use dual mirror-mount antennas in a co-phase configuration. The Wilson 2000 is the most popular choice — designed exactly for this use case. Pair it with proper co-phase coax and matching mirror mounts on both sides of the cab.
