It utilizes a database that includes all known public safety and Department Of Transportation (DOT) channels in the US and Canada. A GPS tracker pinpoints your exact position (or you can enter the ZIP or postal code of the area), to ensure the scanner focuses on channels relevant to where you are. And there is no need to fiddle with your radio and switch back and forth between modes as you drive. With the press of a button, you could be listening to Police channels, DOT channels, etc., while the standard CB channels are active.
