Setup requirements
Check the driving radio's output before connecting the amplifier. Use the correct input limit for the operating mode: no more than 10W AM/FM or 20W SSB. The KL300P is a low-drive amplifier, not a direct match for a high-power radio operating above those limits.
Use a suitable DC supply, correct polarity and wiring appropriate for the current draw. Keep power wiring shorter than 118 inches and use 16 AWG or heavier wire, following RM Italy's wiring guidance. Keep the heatsink unobstructed and connect a properly matched antenna system or suitable dummy load before transmitting.
Do not substitute higher-rated fuses. If installed in a vehicle, RM Italy requires the vehicle to be stationary before use.
US operating restriction
External RF power amplifiers must not be used to increase the transmitting power of a US CB Radio Service station. The KL300P is not a legal CB power upgrade. Observe all applicable equipment-authorization and operating requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Is the KL300P a radio?
No. The KL300P is an external linear RF amplifier. It requires a separate transceiver and does not operate as a standalone radio.
What output power does RM Italy specify?
RM Italy specifies 140W AM/FM and 250W SSB output. These are the manufacturer's mode-specific ratings.
How much input power does it require?
The specified drive range is 1β10W AM/FM or 2β20W SSB. Keep the driving radio within the correct limit for the operating mode.
Does the KL300P have high and low power settings?
Yes. The front panel has a HI/LO selector for high or low output power.
Does it include a receive preamplifier?
Yes. The KL300P has a switchable 25dB receive preamplifier with front-panel control.
What power supply does it need?
RM Italy specifies 12β14V DC and a maximum current draw of 20A. Use an appropriate DC supply and correctly rated wiring.
Can I use it to increase a CB radio's transmitting power in the United States?
No. US CB Radio Service rules prohibit using an external RF power amplifier to increase a CB station's transmitting power.
How large is the KL300P?
Converted from RM Italy's specifications, the unit measures approximately 9.06 inches long, 4.72 inches wide and 1.57 inches high, and weighs approximately 1.90 lb.
