The Ranger RCI-29 is a 10-meter base station radio for a desk or dedicated radio station, with AM, FM, USB and LSB operation. Its 80-watt PEP AM/SSB rating, AC/DC power options and front-panel controls bring the radio, power supply and operating displays together in one base-station chassis.

A six-digit frequency counter and large four-scale analog meter keep frequency, received signal strength, AM modulation, RF power and SWR information easy to find. Flip-down front feet let you tilt the radio for a more comfortable view, while dual cooling fans provide ventilation during operation.

Setting up your base station

Pair the RCI-29 with a suitable 10-meter antenna and 50-ohm coaxial feed line. The radio has a built-in speaker and supports an external receive speaker; connecting an external speaker disables the internal speaker. Is the Ranger RCI-29 a CB radio or a 10-meter radio?

The RCI-29 is a 10-meter amateur base station radio. It is not a standard 40-channel CB radio.

Does the RCI-29 have upper and lower sideband?

Yes. The RCI-29 supports USB and LSB in addition to AM and FM.

Can the RCI-29 operate on AC and DC power?

Yes. It supports 100–120V AC at 50/60Hz in its standard configuration or 13.8V DC, selected with the rear AC/DC switch. Follow the owner's manual for the correct power connection.

Is 80 watts the RCI-29's output in every mode?

No. Ranger specifies 80 watts PEP for AM, USB and LSB, 25 watts RMS for AM, and 60 watts for FM. PEP and RMS are different measurements and should not be treated as interchangeable ratings.

What microphone connection does the RCI-29 use?

The RCI-29 uses a front four-pin dynamic microphone connection. The pin functions are shield/ground on pin 1, audio on pin 2, transmit on pin 3 and receive on pin 4.

What does the RCI-29 audio combo add?

The audio combo adds a Driver Extreme DRX-9010 external receive speaker and a DRX-6560 four-pin noise-cancelling dynamic microphone to the RCI-29 radio. It does not include an antenna or antenna feed line.
