The Ranger RCI-X9HP combines AM, USB and LSB operation with a manufacturer-advertised 200W PEP output rating in a compact, fan-cooled chassis. Its black-and-chrome front panel includes a frequency counter, multifunction meter and touch-select multicolor faceplate lighting, with white LED channel and frequency displays.
The compact layout suits installations where radio space matters, but physical fit still needs to be checked. Two internal fans discharge heat through the bottom, so leave ventilation space beneath the radio rather than enclosing it tightly in an overhead compartment.
Controls and Features
- AM and single sideband: Select AM, USB or LSB; the RCI-X9HP does not have FM.
- Frequency counter and fine clarifier: View the selected frequency and adjust receive tuning when listening to SSB signals.
- Multifunction meter: Monitor received signal strength, RF output, AM modulation and SWR.
- Auto-calibrating SWR meter: Check the antenna system without a separate manual meter-calibration control. A high-SWR warning light provides an additional alert.
- Audio controls: Adjust mic gain, echo/time and talkback volume from the front panel.
- Receiver controls: Set RF gain and squelch, with NB/ANL filtering available for impulse noise.
- Adjustable display: Choose among seven faceplate backlight colors and adjust illumination brightness.
- Variable RF power: Adjust output using the front-panel power control.
- Public address: Use the separate PA connection with a suitable PA speaker, sold separately.

Included Equipment and Installation
The radio package includes a Ranger SRA-198 noise-cancelling microphone, power cord, mounting bracket and installation hardware. An antenna and coax are not included with the standalone radio.
Provide a properly fused DC power connection and wiring suitable for the radio's requirements. The manufacturer's manual cautions against voltage drop from cigarette-lighter connections and long power-wire runs; check supply capacity and cable routing before installation.
Use the listed dimensions as nominal radio measurements, not a guaranteed console opening. Allow space for the control knobs, rear connectors, cables and unobstructed fan airflow, then adjust the antenna and verify SWR for the frequencies you use.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the RCI-X9HP have single sideband or FM?
The RCI-X9HP supports AM, USB and LSB, giving it both upper and lower single sideband. It does not have FM.
What is the RCI-X9HP's advertised output power?
Ranger advertises 200W PEP for the RCI-X9HP on AM/SSB. PEP means peak envelope power; it is not a continuous-power or deadkey rating.
Will the RCI-X9HP fit my truck's radio opening?
Ranger lists nominal dimensions of 7⅜″ wide × 8¾″ deep × 2¼″ high. Measure your opening and allow clearance for controls, connectors, cables and airflow beneath the radio; fit is not guaranteed for every truck.
Does the auto-calibrating SWR meter tune the antenna?
No. Auto-calibration applies to the meter, not the antenna. The antenna still needs proper mounting, adjustment and an SWR check on the completed installation.
What microphone comes with the radio?
A Ranger SRA-198 noise-cancelling dynamic microphone is included. The radio uses a standard 4-pin microphone connection; the audio combo adds a separate Driver Extreme DRX-6560 microphone and DRX-9010 speaker.
Does the standalone radio include an antenna and coax?
No. The standalone package does not include an antenna or coax. The RCI-X9HP truck install combo includes the SR-A10 antenna, DRX-3402 mirror mount and DRX-1518 18-foot M213 coax.
Can I use the RCI-X9HP in a base setup?
Yes, with a suitable regulated 13.8V DC power supply and a correctly matched antenna system. Confirm the supply's current capacity and keep the bottom fan airflow unobstructed; the radio does not plug directly into household AC power.
