Frequently asked questions
Is the TRE-2617 a CB radio or a 10-meter radio?
The TRE-2617 is a 40-channel AM/FM CB radio covering 26.965 to 27.405 MHz. It is not a 10-meter amateur radio.
Does the TRE-2617 have single sideband?
No. It operates on AM and FM; USB and LSB are not included. Both radios must use the same channel and mode to communicate.
Which microphone comes with the TRE-2617?
A Ranger SRA-198 noise-cancelling hand microphone is included. The radio uses a standard four-pin microphone connection.
Can I use a Driver Extreme DRX-6560 microphone?
Yes. The DRX-6560 uses standard Cobra-style four-pin wiring compatible with this radio. The audio combo adds this microphone and retains the included Ranger microphone.
Can I connect an external speaker?
Yes. Connect a standard CB external speaker to the EXT.SP jack. This routes receive audio to the external speaker and mutes the internal speaker. The separate PA.SP jack is for a PA speaker.
Will it work directly on a 24-volt electrical system?
No. The TRE-2617 is specified for 13.8V DC with negative ground, as used in a nominal 12V vehicle system. Do not connect it directly to 24V.
Does SWR protection replace an antenna SWR check?
No. SWR protection can interrupt transmission when an antenna-system problem is detected, but it does not replace checking and adjusting the installed antenna with a suitable SWR meter.
Is an antenna included with the radio?
No. The radio-only listing includes the Ranger microphone but not an antenna or antenna coax. The truck-install combo adds an SR-A10 antenna, mirror mount and 18-foot coax.
