The President ACMD901 is the factory-designed cooling fan kit for the President Washington 10 meter radio. The Washington ships without a fan from the factory, and President Electronics recommends adding one — or a pair — for long transmissions, heavy repeater duty, and high-duty-cycle operation on 10 and 12 meters.
This kit adds a genuine President-branded 40 mm fan directly to the Washington's rear heatsink. Once installed, the radio's built-in APM (Automatic Power Management) system controls the fan automatically based on internal temperature — no external switching, no wiring hacks, no manual on/off. How it works
The ACMD901 mounts directly to the four screw holes on the Washington's rear heatsink using the included screws and protective grille. The 2-pin connector plugs into a dedicated fan header on the Washington's main circuit board — no soldering, no cutting, no wire splicing. The wires tuck neatly into grooves molded into the case, so nothing sits loose or unprotected when the cover goes back on.
Once installed, the radio's APM (Automatic Power Management) circuit does the rest. APM continuously monitors internal temperature and switches the fan on automatically when the chassis heats up beyond a set threshold. If the radio still gets warmer than APM prefers, it will also gently reduce transmit power to keep everything within spec. The Washington has two internal fan headers because it was designed with dual-fan cooling in mind. Installation
Installation is straightforward and takes most operators 20-30 minutes with basic hand tools. In outline:
- Disconnect the Washington from power.
- Remove the top case (screws are on the sides and rear). The original warranty stickers will break — this is expected. Two replacement stickers are included in the kit.
- Locate the two fan connectors on the main circuit board.

- Route the fan wires into the case grooves and plug the 2-pin connector into an available header.
