The SuperStar SS148PRO is an AM 10-meter amateur radio with hands-on controls, a large SWR/MOD/PWR meter and a high-SWR warning light. It pairs a Ranger noise-cancelling microphone with adjustable mic gain, RF gain, echo and talkback, giving you direct control over transmit audio and receive settings.
Choose the SS148PRO when you want AM operation and a traditional front panel rather than FM or single sideband. Its bottom-mounted heat sink and dedicated DC power connection need room in the installation, so check your mounting space and power wiring before ordering.

Plan Your Installation
Use a properly fused DC supply and wiring suited to the radio, with a secure negative-ground connection. Leave clearance around the heat sink, rear connectors and control knobs; contact us before ordering if your installation depends on a tight chassis opening.
Match and adjust the antenna for the frequencies you will use, then check SWR after installation. The radio's meter and warning light help you monitor the antenna system, but they do not automatically tune the antenna or correct a poor connection.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the SS148PRO's advertised power output?
The SS148PRO has a manufacturer-advertised 300W PEP output rating. PEP means peak envelope power; this is not a continuous-power or deadkey rating.
Does the SS148PRO have FM or SSB?
No. The SS148PRO is an AM 10-meter radio with a public-address function; it does not offer FM or single sideband.
What does the SWR/MOD/PWR meter show?
The selector lets you check antenna SWR, AM modulation or RF output. A separate high-SWR LED warns of an antenna-system mismatch, but neither feature automatically adjusts the antenna.
Is a microphone included?
Yes. The radio includes a Ranger 4-pin noise-cancelling microphone. The separate audio combo adds a Driver Extreme DRX-6560 dynamic microphone and DRX-9010 external speaker.
Can I use the SS148PRO at a desk or base setup?
Yes, with a suitable regulated 13.8V DC supply, correctly rated wiring and a properly matched antenna system. It does not connect directly to household AC power; confirm the supply's current capacity for your radio before installation.
Does the radio include an antenna, mount and coax?
No. The standalone radio does not include those antenna-system components. The SS148PRO truck install combo includes a Stryker SR-A10 antenna, DRX-3402 mirror mount and DRX-1518 18-foot M213 coax.
Will the SS148PRO fit my existing radio opening?
Ranger lists the radio at 7⅞″ wide × 11⅛″ deep × 3¼″ high. These are nominal manufacturer dimensions, not a guaranteed installation opening. Allow clearance for the heat sink, controls, connectors and cables; contact us before ordering if your installation uses a close-fitting console or bracket.
