Install and tuning

SWR should be verified at antenna installation. The Virginia ships pre-tuned to 1.1:1 for a clean roof-center install, but every mounting location — roof, hood, trunk, cab tool box — changes the antenna's ground plane and shifts the resonant point. A quick check with an inline SWR meter or the Top One's own front-panel SWR meter across channels 1, 20, and 40 confirms the whip is trimmed correctly for your vehicle before you transmit at 12 W PEP on SSB.

Route the antenna coax away from ignition wiring, spark plugs, and alternator leads. Keep the run as short as practical for a clean install — the 12 ft coax on the Virginia is right for a rooftop-to-dash pull in most pickups and full-size trucks; sedans and shorter cabs may need to coil the excess neatly in the trunk or behind the dash.

Licensing

CB radio operation in the United States falls under FCC Part 95 rules and does not require a license. All 40 CB channels of the Top One — AM channels 1–40 and the SSB region on channels 36–40 — operate at the FCC-legal 4 W AM / 12 W PEP SSB power levels this radio is rated for. The TRE Top One is covered by Ranger USA's factory warranty — register at rangerusa.com/warranty-information or call 619-271-4035. CB Radio Supply does not offer an in-house warranty on the TRE Top One, and all Top One sales are final. The President Virginia antenna is covered by a 10-year factory warranty. The Aries 3″ wedge speaker is covered by Aries' manufacturer warranty.
