Every piece is picked for real-world durability on a work truck, semi, or heavy pickup. The DRX-3402 bracket is aircraft-grade extruded aluminum, .250″ thick and 2.5″ wide — sized for the load a full-height whip transmits into the mount. The heavy-duty barrel spring is rated for antennas taller than 4 feet, so it actually damps a 102″ whip instead of letting it flex the mount. The DRX-1518 is 96% tinned-copper braid over 100% aluminum foil in an M213 jacket for low loss and quiet receive — a measurable step up from stock RG8X on the antenna feed.

Install and tuning

SWR should be verified at antenna installation. A 102″ whip is highly sensitive to mount location and ground plane — a mirror-bracket mount to bare metal on a heavy pickup or semi tractor is what the DRX-3402 is designed for. Once bolted down, ground the bracket to the vehicle chassis with a bonding strap if it isn't already contacting bare metal.

Check SWR across channels 1, 20, and 40 with an inline meter or antenna analyzer. If the low end reads high and the high end reads low, the whip is too long — trim in ¼″ increments. Aim for 1.1:1 to 1.3:1 across the CB band; that's realistic for a heavy-duty mirror-mount install on a real vehicle. Route the DRX-1518 cleanly, away from ignition wiring, alternator leads, and spark plug wires.

The heavy-duty barrel spring goes between the DRX-3402 stud and the whip base. Set the spring so the whip sits vertical at rest — a lean at rest becomes a bigger lean at highway speed.
