Why this combo

The MX-36HP6 is only as good as its antenna system. Feed 60 watts into a poorly matched CB whip cut for 27 MHz and you'll run high SWR and get modest range for the power expended. This kit pairs the MX-36HP6 with a 10-meter-tuned Stryker antenna on a heavy-duty mirror mount, using premium M213 coax rated well above the radio's output. Install and tuning

Antenna installation is where the whole system either sings or squawks. Every antenna needs to be SWR-checked at install — mounting location, ground plane, and coax routing all affect the match. We verify SWR at antenna installation on any local install; if you're installing yourself, an inline SWR meter or an antenna analyzer at the antenna is essential. Don't transmit into an unverified antenna system.

Coax should be routed away from ignition wiring, spark plugs, and alternator leads. Ground the antenna mount to bare vehicle metal for best radiation efficiency. Keep the coax run tidy — 18 ft is optimal for a mirror-mount install in a standard cab.

10-meter licensing

The 10-meter amateur band requires an FCC amateur radio license — Technician class or higher. See our 10-meter radio license guide for FCC and ARRL testing resources. This radio should not be operated on air until the operator holds a valid amateur radio license.

Is this combo everything I need to get on the air?

Yes — plus your antenna mounting location and an amateur radio license for on-air transmit use. The combo includes the radio, antenna, mount, and coax. You provide the truck (or vehicle), the license, and about an hour with basic hand tools.

Do I need an amateur radio license?

Yes for transmit. The MX-36HP6 operates on the 10 meter amateur band and requires at least an FCC Technician-class amateur radio license for legal on-air transmit use. Receive-only monitoring does not require a license.

Will this fit a Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Volvo, Mack, or International tractor?

Yes. The MX-36HP6 chassis matches the Cobra 29 footprint used in nearly every factory dash cutout, and the DRX-3402 mount fits standard 3/4"–1" mirror arms on all six of those brands.

Is 10,000 watts of antenna overkill for a 60 watt radio?

Overbuild is exactly the right call for a trucker antenna. A whip rated far above your actual output runs cool, tunes wide, and lasts longer under real-road stress. The SR-A10 was chosen specifically because it will outlive the truck.

Is 18 feet of coax enough for a Class 8 tractor?

Yes for a mirror-mount install on virtually every Class 7 or Class 8 cab-over or long-nose tractor. If you're mounting significantly farther (a stack on a sleeper roof, for example), consider our longer coax options.

Can I use a magnet mount instead of the DRX-3402 mirror mount?

Yes. If you'd prefer a temporary or non-drilled install, swap the SR-A10 + DRX-3402 for the SR-A10MM magnet-mount version. Contact us and we'll build a custom combo.

How is this different from the SR-655HPC+ install combo?

Same accessory recipe (SR-A10 + DRX-3402 + DRX-1518), different radio. The MX-36HP6 is AM-only and 60W; the SR-655HPC+ is AM/FM/SSB. If you want SSB and FM, choose the SR-655HPC+ combo. If you want a simpler, lower-cost AM-only 10 meter setup, this Mirage combo is the pick.

Should I add the audio combo too?
