Discontinued — the Connex CX3400HP is no longer in production. There are two current-production successors in the Connex 10 meter mobile lineup, each aimed at a slightly different buyer.

Which Connex replaces the CX3400HP for you?

Most CX3400HP shoppers should choose the Connex 3300HP

The Connex 3300HP is the closest match to the CX3400HP: same 45W PEP output, same dual MOSFET finals, same full-size chassis, same front-panel 4-pin mic jack, same board echo with talkback. It's actually the more established radio of the two — the 3300HP has been in continuous production for over 20 years. Where the 3300HP pulls ahead of the CX3400HP: it adds native FM mode operation for the 10m FM repeater segment, ships with a $60 Ranger SRA-198 noise-canceling microphone in the box (the CX3400HP shipped with a generic mic), and sits at $279 instead of $320. This is the default recommendation for anyone replacing a CX3400HP in the same install.

Choose the Connex CX33HPC1 if you need a compact chassis

The Connex CX33HPC1 is the small-chassis Connex — 8.75" long instead of the CX3400HP's 11.25" — so it fits tight overhead consoles and dash cutouts where a full-size 10m mobile won't go. It matches the CX3400HP on 45W PEP output, dual MOSFET finals, front-panel mic jack, dual-control echo, variable talkback, and six-band coverage, and it adds AM/FM/PA (the CX3400HP was AM/FM only). Pick this one when the vehicle install is space-constrained. $299.

The one CX3400HP feature neither successor carries

The CX3400HP had a six-color selectable LED faceplate (white, cyan, green, purple, orange, blue). Both current-production successors use a blue LED display only. If the multi-color faceplate was the reason you picked the CX3400HP originally, that specific feature is no longer available in the Connex 10m mobile lineup.

Both replacements ship with

  • Connex transceiver
  • 4-pin noise-canceling microphone (Ranger SRA-198 with the 3300HP, generic 4-pin with the CX33HPC1)
  • DC power cord, mounting bracket, mic clip
  • Connex factory owner's manual
  • 1-year factory warranty through Connex

Optional bench alignment on either successor

Don't forget to add the Pro tune and alignment option at checkout so that your radio is professionally bench-tuned for best performance per the manufacturer's service manual.

Frequently asked questions

Why was the Connex CX3400HP discontinued?

Connex retired the CX3400HP from active production. It is no longer available new from the factory. For a current-production Connex 10 meter mobile, choose the Connex 3300HP (recommended default) or the compact Connex CX33HPC1.

Which radio should I buy instead of the CX3400HP?

For most CX3400HP shoppers, the Connex 3300HP is the direct replacement — same 45W PEP power tier, same full-size chassis, same dual MOSFET finals, same front-panel mic jack, plus native FM mode and a $60 Ranger SRA-198 mic included in the box at a lower price. Choose the Connex CX33HPC1 instead only if your install needs the smaller 8.75" chassis for a tight overhead console or dash cutout.

Do the successor radios match the CX3400HP's six-color LED faceplate?

No. The multi-color selectable faceplate was specific to the CX3400HP. Both the 3300HP and the CX33HPC1 use a blue LED display only. If the six-color faceplate was your primary reason for choosing the CX3400HP, that specific feature is no longer produced in the Connex 10m mobile lineup.

Are the CX3400HP and Connex 3300HP electrically similar?

Yes. Both use a dual MOSFET final stage, both are rated 45W PEP AM output, both use the same standard 4-pin front-panel microphone jack, both are full-size chassis at 11.25" long, and both operate on the 10 meter amateur band. A CX3400HP install (bracket, coax, antenna, mic) transfers to the Connex 3300HP without changes.

Are the CX3400HP and CX33HPC1 electrically similar?

Yes, with two differences worth noting. Both share the 45W PEP output tier, dual MOSFET finals, front-panel 4-pin mic jack, dual-control echo, variable talkback, and six-band coverage. The CX33HPC1 adds AM/FM/PA (the CX3400HP was AM/FM only) and uses a smaller 8.75" chassis; the mounting bracket footprint is different, so a fresh mount is required.

Can I still buy a used or open-box Connex CX3400HP?

Not through CB Radio Supply. Our factory allocation of the CX3400HP is closed. For a current-production Connex 10m mobile with factory warranty, choose one of the two successors above.

Does the 3300HP or CX33HPC1 come Pro Tuned?

Only if you add the Pro Tune and Alignment option at checkout. A Pro Tune brings the radio to the Connex service-manual specification. Both successors will operate to Connex's stock spec without a tune; a tune ensures the radio is at the top of that spec.

What antenna should I run on either successor?

For mobile use, a 10 meter-tuned whip like the Stryker SR-A10 on a heavy-duty mount with a good ground plane. Keep coax runs short and use quality RG-8X or better. All antennas need SWR verification at installation — SWR is verified at the antenna during install, not on the radio.
