Installation Overview

1. Mount the DRX-3402 to your mirror arm. Use stainless hardware, torque to feel, and check that the antenna will clear low bridges and gas station canopies before you tighten fully.
2. Install the Stryker SR-A10 on the mount. Snug the base into the mirror mount. Leave the tip cap accessible if you plan to tune length for lowest SWR.
3. Route the DRX-1518 coax from the antenna base through the cab. Avoid sharp bends, hot exhaust surfaces, and pinch points at the door.
4. Connect the coax to the SR-A10 at the antenna base and to the SR-497HPC at the SO-239 on the back of the radio.
5. Power on the SR-497HPC, key up briefly on a clear frequency, and adjust the SR-A10 tip until you get lowest SWR on your primary operating frequency. Under 1.5:1 is excellent; under 2.0:1 is safe to run. Watch the automatic AWI as a backstop.

Is this combo everything I need to get on the air?

Yes — plus your antenna mounting location and an amateur radio license for on-air transmit use. The combo includes the radio, antenna, mount, and coax. You provide the truck (or vehicle), the license, and about an hour with basic hand tools.

Do I need an amateur radio license?

Yes for transmit. The SR-497HPC operates on the 10 meter amateur band and requires at least an FCC Technician-class amateur radio license for legal on-air transmit use. Receive-only monitoring does not require a license.

Will this fit a Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Volvo, Mack, or International tractor?

The DRX-3402 mount fits standard 3/4"–1" mirror arms on all six of those brands. The SR-497HPC is a full-size chassis (11 5/8" long), so plan on a full-length dash slot, an overhead cubby, or a bracket install for the radio itself. If your cab has a tight OEM radio cutout, consider the shorter-chassis SR-655HPC+ instead.

Is 10,000 watts of antenna overkill for a 100 watt radio?

Overbuild is exactly the right call for a trucker antenna. A whip rated far above your actual output runs cool, tunes wide, and lasts longer under real-road stress. The SR-A10 was chosen specifically because it will outlive the truck — and it's already sized for a linear amplifier if you ever add one.

Is 18 feet of coax enough for a Class 8 tractor?

Yes for a mirror-mount install on virtually every Class 7 or Class 8 cab-over or long-nose tractor. If you're mounting significantly farther (a stack on a sleeper roof, for example), consider our longer coax options.

Can I use a magnet mount instead of the DRX-3402 mirror mount?
