SuperStar SS-399 Compact AM/FM 10 Meter Mobile Radio
The SuperStar SS-399 is a slim, no-nonsense 10-meter mobile transceiver built for operators who want AM and FM in the smallest footprint that will still fit under a dash. At 7" x 4.76" x 1.5", it slips into truck consoles, work-van cabs, and daily-driver cars where a full-size chassis simply won't go. It runs on 12–24 V DC and includes a factory cigarette-lighter power cord, which makes it easy to move the radio between vehicles without pulling apart a hard-wired install.
Audio quality is where the SS-399 punches above its size. The included SRA-198NC noise-cancelling microphone rejects road, wind, and engine noise before it hits the modulator, and a switchable echo circuit lets you shape the outbound signal to your taste. On the receive side, variable squelch and RF gain let you dial out band noise on quiet stretches and open the receiver back up when signals get weak. A front-panel signal / RF power indicator and channel number display give you everything you need to see at a glance.
Inside, the transmitter uses MOSFET final devices bonded to a large heatsink, which is why the radio holds up to extended keyed-down operation without fading. Rated output is 8 W RMS carrier and 20 W PEP across AM and FM on Ranger bands C, D, and E.

The SS-399 is the compact, AM/FM-only member of the SuperStar family. If you need more power or a larger chassis with the same clean SuperStar audio, take a look at these siblings:
- SuperStar SS-656 — 90+ W PEP AM/FM/PA in a mid-size mobile chassis with front-panel 4-pin mic jack.
- SuperStar SS-676 — 80 W PEP AM/FM/PA in a slim chassis with built-in SWR protection.
- SuperStar SS-99VHP — 200+ W PEP AM/SSB with 8-band coverage, echo, and talkback for operators who want maximum output.
Related 10 meter mobile options
Shoppers looking at the SS-399 often also compare it against the Stryker 10-meter mobile line and the broader 10-meter ham radio collection. Both are worth browsing if you're trying to decide between compact and higher-output builds.
Complete SS-399 Kits & Combos
If you'd rather buy the SS-399 with its most-asked-for upgrades already priced together, we build two ready-to-ship combos:
- SS-399 + DRX-6560 Noise-Cancelling Mic + DRX-9010 External Speaker Audio Combo — upgrade the stock mic and add a real external speaker for a noisy cab. Both accessories use the SS-399's standard 4-pin Ranger/Cobra wiring, no adapter required.
- SS-399 + Stryker SR-A10 Antenna + DRX-3402 Heavy-Duty Mirror Mount + DRX-1518 18-Foot M213 Coax Truck Install Combo — a complete first-time truck antenna install kit around the SS-399. The SR-A10 is broadband-tuned for CB and 10-meter so it works with this radio and any future CB upgrade.
Frequently asked questions
What modes does the SuperStar SS-399 support?
The SS-399 transmits and receives on AM and FM. It does not include SSB. If you need SSB, the SuperStar SS-99VHP covers AM and SSB with far more output.
What power output does the SS-399 produce?
Rated output is 8 W RMS carrier and 20 W PEP on AM and FM, across Ranger bands C, D, and E.
Is the SS-399 a licensed amateur radio?
Yes. The SS-399 is a 10 meter amateur transceiver and is intended for use by licensed amateur radio operators on the 10 meter band.
What microphone does the SS-399 include, and can I use my own?
The radio ships with an SRA-198NC noise-cancelling microphone. It uses the standard 4-pin Ranger / Cobra mic wiring, so any standard 4-pin mic wired for that pinout will drop in.
How is the SS-399 powered?
It runs on 12–24 V DC through the included cigarette-lighter cord, which makes it easy to move between vehicles. If you prefer a hard-wired install, standard 12 V accessory wiring works fine as long as you fuse it correctly.
Will the SS-399 fit under a dash or in a truck console?
The chassis measures 7" x 4.76" x 1.5" (180 x 120 x 40 mm), which is one of the smallest 10 meter mobile chassis on the market. It fits in most truck consoles, work-van cabs, and factory radio bays that reject full-size mobiles.
Does the SS-399 include an external speaker jack?
Yes. A 3.5 mm external speaker jack on the rear lets you add an external speaker such as one from our CB radio speakers and PA horns collection for better audio in a noisy cab.
Do you offer a Pro Tune and alignment for the SS-399?
Yes. Add the Pro tune and alignment option at checkout and your radio will be professionally bench-tuned before it ships.
